
General Terms and Conditions for Ashby Moving

Welcome to Ashby Moving, a trusted provider of intra-US relocation services since 2012. These General Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) outline the rules and regulations for using our services. By booking or engaging with Ashby Moving, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not proceed with our services.
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on our website, and your continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Company Information
Ashby Moving is a professional moving company specializing in residential and commercial relocations within the United States. Established in 2012, we are committed to providing reliable, efficient, and customer-focused moving solutions. Our services include packing, loading, transportation, unloading, and optional storage. All operations are conducted in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including those from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
Services Provided
- Scope of Services: We offer full-service moving options tailored to your needs, including but not limited to: packing materials supply, furniture disassembly/reassembly, specialty item handling (e.g., pianos, antiques), and short-term storage. Services are limited to moves within the contiguous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii (subject to availability).
- Estimates and Quotes: All quotes are based on information provided by the client, such as inventory lists and move details. Quotes are non-binding unless specified as binding in writing. Additional fees may apply for unforeseen circumstances, such as extra stairs, long carries, or fuel surcharges.
- Scheduling: Moves are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. We aim to accommodate your preferred dates but cannot guarantee availability due to demand or external factors like weather.
Booking and Payment
- Booking Process: To secure your move, a deposit of 20% of the estimated total cost is required at booking. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the move, unless otherwise agreed.
- Payment Methods: We accept major credit cards, bank transfers, and certified checks. All payments must be made in USD. A 3% processing fee applies to credit card transactions.
- Taxes and Fees: Prices exclude applicable taxes, tolls, or parking fees, which will be added to the final invoice.
- Late Payments: Overdue payments will incur a 1.5% monthly interest charge. We reserve the right to withhold delivery until full payment is received.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
- Cancellations: If you cancel more than 14 days before the scheduled move date, your deposit is fully refundable. Cancellations between 7-14 days prior result in a 50% deposit forfeiture. Cancellations within 7 days or no-shows forfeit the entire deposit.
- Rescheduling: Requests to reschedule must be made at least 7 days in advance. We will accommodate where possible, but additional fees may apply if the new date requires changes to our logistics.
- Force Majeure: Neither party is liable for delays or cancellations due to events beyond control, such as natural disasters, strikes, or government restrictions.
Liability, Insurance, and Claims
- Valuation Coverage: Ashby Moving offers basic released value protection at no extra cost (up to $0.60 per pound per article). For full-value protection, additional insurance can be purchased through us or a third-party provider. We recommend reviewing your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance for coverage gaps.
- Limitations of Liability: We are not liable for damage to items not packed by our team, inherent defects, or acts of God. Maximum liability is limited to the declared value of goods or $100,000 per shipment, whichever is less.
- Claims Process: Any claims for loss or damage must be filed in writing within 30 days of delivery. We will investigate and respond within 60 days. Supporting documentation (e.g., photos, receipts) is required.
- Prohibited Items: We do not transport hazardous materials (e.g., flammables, explosives), perishables, plants, or high-value items (e.g., jewelry, cash) unless declared and insured separately. Transporting prohibited items voids liability coverage.
Customer Responsibilities
- Accurate Information: Provide complete and accurate details about your inventory, access restrictions (e.g., elevators, parking), and any special requirements.
- Preparation: Ensure all items are ready for moving. Disconnect appliances, empty drawers, and secure valuables.
- Access and Permits: Obtain necessary permits for parking or building access. You are responsible for any fines incurred due to lack of permits.
- Supervision: A responsible adult must be present during loading and unloading.
Privacy and Data Protection
We collect personal information (e.g., contact details, addresses) solely for providing services. Your data is protected in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) where relevant. We do not share your information with third parties except as needed for service fulfillment (e.g., insurance providers).
Dispute Resolution

- Arbitration: Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), held in the state of the move’s origin.
- Class Action Waiver: You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis only, waiving any right to class actions.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal action must be filed in the courts of San Francisco County, California.
Miscellaneous
- Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the full agreement between you and Ashby Moving, superseding any prior understandings.
- Severability: If any provision is deemed invalid, the remaining Terms remain in effect.
